When Napolean Bonaparte was presented with plans for a steamship, he had this to say:

“You would make a ship sail against the winds and currents by lighting a bonfire under her decks? I have no time for such nonsense.”

He might have been a good military strategist. But his sense of technology innovation was, well, a bit off!
