The Sun Herald released an article in July announcing that the total cost of the clean coal Kemper County lignite plant dropped by $1.8 million.
Pulling from an 8-K report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the savings came from unused resources designated for startup costs and scheduled risk costs. The total estimated budget is now $5.5 billion.
At this stage, the purchase of the Kemper site is completed, construction of the nitrogen plant, water plant, water storage lake, administrative and electrical buildings, and lignite storage dome is finished, and pneumatic testing of the gasifiers has successfully concluded.
The plant remains on target to begin commercial operations in the first half of 2015.
