Mississippi Energy Institute hosted this year’s Governor’s Energy Summit. Governor of Mississippi, Phil Bryant, and former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich were a few of the honored guests in attendance. Topics included the Kemper Project, coal and energy innovation.
Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich closed off the Governor’s energy summit Thursday with words of encouragement for to Mississippi.
“You have a chance to be a remarkable leader in the country in the next 10 to 20 years,” said Gingrich.
Gingrich also discussed the Kemper Project specifically, amplifying his support.
Gingrich believes that Mississippi Power’s Kemper County coal plant may be the most important single experiment in developing electricity in the world today. When construction is finished, the plant is supposed capture carbon dioxide from burning coal, and which will be burned for fuel. It is expected to be both energy efficient and reduce C02 emissions.
